I thought I knew who Stat was. Some guy in Indiana who used to fly ultralights. But after re-reading several of his posts, I can now reveal his true identity:

Stat is......Archie Goodwin!

Lou,

I readily admit I'm not into pop culture. Wikipedia lists two Archie Goodwins: the detective and the comic book artist. Please clue me in!

Clueless in Salt Lake.

Lou,
I am flattered. Archie Goodwin was a versatile character---someone with suprises. I contest the comparison on many levels, and I know you were kidding anyway. My idol will always be the moody, sometimes youthful (see immature), sometimes deeply serious Mark Twain.

Lou , last I knew was getting his pilot's license. I cannot imagine a more climate friendly state than California to do such, as you can chisel away those required hours year round. At present, the federal government (FAA)is so desparate to get private pilots that they have loosened up the hurddles--and I read somewhere last year that there are so many planes for sale without pilots that to say that it is a plane BUYERS market is a gross understatment. Now is the perfect time to become a pilot---whereas 12 years ago, ultralites were far more attractive as means to getting in the air cheap, fast, and without carrying the burden of the FAA's regs.

Did you get that amazing knot in your stomach on that first stall turn?

So anyway, for those of you who haven't spent countless hours reading mystery novels, Archie Goodwin is Nero Wolfe's brash (and witty) right hand man.

If you read lots of Nero Wolfe novels, and lots of Stat's posts, you'll notice striking stylistic similarities.

It may be that Rex Stout's soul has found a home.

I wonder if Mr. Stout also types incredibly fast, yet incredibly inaccurate. (80 poorly spelled words a minute on a good day)

I need an editor ----on so many levels.
